Self Assembly Furniture Tips
Hi all,
Here are a few tips for Self-Assembly furniture and I hope it helps.
Before you do anything CHECK the contents table, this tells you exactly what the package contains, should anything be missing contact the store you bought it from as they will probably have to return the whole package because of the manufacturing system these days.
Once you are satisfied everything is in order, if the unit has dowels, insert them into the longer pieces, rather than the shorter, that way there is less chance of the dowel splitting the outer surface that everyone sees, and do not forget the glue as this helps keep the unit more rigid.
The next step is to place the drawer runners, into the side panels, if your unit has drawers, This is easier to do with the panels separate because you have more room to work, then if your unit's Top or Base are fastened with a Pin and Half turn device, it is easier to get them to fit together if you screw the pins into the Tops and Base's and then place the pins into the holes provided on the side panels, that way you have the Top/base in position and the pins go all the way in, then place the half turn fitting into the hole, with the gap so it fits around the pin, then using your screw driver half turn the fitting until tight.
Place the drawers into the unit to make sure they fit correctly before fitting the back panel, that way the unit will remain straighter and the back panel will fit better and make the unit more rigid.
Finally, leave the unit long enough for the glue to set and you should find you have a rigid and usable unit.
Final tip, Do Not Over Fill the Drawers, this is the most common reason for drawer damage and you should get a decent length of usage time from your unit. |
